Palace of La Magdalena

The aristocracy and royalty of the late 19th century made Santander the holiday destination par excellence, which is why in 1908 the construction of a majestic palace began, in a location that surprises everyone who visits it, the Peninsula of La Magdalena.

The Peninsula is the one that welcomes one of the most beautiful bays in the world, Santander. But the surprise comes when you visit this place, as it offers an impressive view of the city, framed between the beach and the mountains.

At the top of this idyllic enclave, the Palace of La Magdalena was built, and since 1913 it has been the summer residence of King Alfonso XIII and Queen Victoria Eugenia.

The Palace is an architectural mixture of various styles and influences, mainly English and French, fused with mountain and modernist styles. The result is a slender and elegant building, adorned with projections, balconies and towers.

Inside, there is an important collection of furniture, photographs and paintings from the period when the palace was a royal residence. Amongst the paintings, there are some by masters of the period, such as Joaquín Sorolla.

The Palace offers guided visits of the main rooms.

Occasionally, premium visits are organised, in which the tour is extended to the most unknown parts of the Palace, making it a unique opportunity to get to know it.

Among the different types of visits, they offer dramatised visits, an experience that allows visitors to discover what life was like in the Magdalena Palace when it was the summer residence of the royal family.

The Palacio de La Magdalena is surprising, because it is the only Royal Palace in Spain in which civil weddings can take place, so Santander offers the possibility of having a "yes I do" of a movie.

In the Peninsula, in addition to the Palace, there are the Royal Stables, built in 1918 and which, from their initial function, have witnessed important events in their halls and beautiful gardens.

In the halls of the Palace, as in the Stables, all kinds of events can be held, as the facilities of both buildings have been completely renovated, so that success is guaranteed. Not forgetting the added sustainability of the magnificent natural environment in which it is located.
